Hi Chris, I had bought your plan a year back and for some personal reasons I could not start my workout, but now i want to start my workout.right now I have a lot of fat around my belly and love handles my total body fat percentage is 26.5% and my metabolism rate is 1556.
Now iam confused if I should start with weight training in the gym or with your plan of calesthnics to loose this fat and get ripped...
Please do guide me.
I think you should do calisthenics because of:
*more impressive - doing handstands and levers is more impressive then moving heavy weights.
*more fun - learning and achiving new skills is much more fun then just increasing the weight.
*cost less - for this workout program all you need is a pull up bar and parallel bars, which is chipper then a gym membership
*compound movements - all of the exercises are targeting alot of different muscles at the same time like the body supposed to be working (if you want to.. lets say lift a rock - you wouldnt use only your shoulders or biceps you would use your lower back, shoulders, biceps, quads, hamstrings, glutes, upper traps and lower traps - alot of muscels.)
Grip strength - while hanging from a bar your griping your hole body with two arms (lets say 45kg each arm)
And later on with one arm (90kg)
But in weight training you only get to lift that heavy when doing deadlifts or something like that, most exercises will be too easy for your grip.
*not just strength - calisthenics will also improve your balance like in handstands, pistol squats, planch.
And also your flexibility like in pistol squats, L sit, V sit, planch.
*the core!!! - the core is active is every single calisthenics exercise so if youre for a realy strong and stable core, calisthenics is for you.
*dont build legs - its wrong that calisthenics wont let you build big legs, you can look at any calisthenics athleate (like chris) and you can see that he has build and strong legs with only calisthenics.
*its different - when someone wants to workout, the normal thing is to simply go to the gym, but calisthenics is different, and you could intereduce it to everyone and inspire them to try it them selves
So that is all I could think about.
Good luck with choosing the best thing for you
