Hey Chris I just read that rice makes you fat, due to that it transforms into glucose and your body makes insuline or something like that. If it gets you fat why do you eat it? Is it true that it makes you fat?
Look bro, anything excess will make you fat. Eat in a calorie surplus for a month without working out - you're about to gain a whole lot of fat. Eat in a surplus with working out - the energy 'converts' into bigger muscles, and not a lot of fat will be gained.
But what I meant to say it, eat excess (more than you really need) of protein, carbs OR fat, doesn't matter which - you'll gain fat. It's not like sugar itself will make you fat. I've read some people went on like a Twinkie diet and ate all that sugar and actually lost fat because he was eating in a calorie deficit, not that it's healthy though + he probably lost tons of muscle..
And no, rice isn't bad, I mean what? Are you not supposed to eat any sugar/carbs just because research says it makes you fat? If you want to lose fat you could do just that - eat no carbs, but if you don't eat in a calorie deficit with the remaining protein/fats, you'll end up NOT burning fat. And carbs actually help muscle growth, as well as it's an energy source as you know. And if you don't eat enough carbs, protein will end up as glucose because of no other energy source instead of building the muscle blocks ;)
Good answer Gligor. I would actually recommend brown rice btw. But I'm interested to see what Chris thinks about your question Jorge.
I just wanted to mention the balance between fats and protein.. Eating fats does not mean you gain fat, I think we humans ran into a lot of confusion with that conclusion. If you eat 10 avocados per day you won't gain any fat.. there is a difference between good and bad fats. If you eat hemp seeds for example you have a very nice ration of fats to protein. Its about 2:1 (fat:protein). your cells need fat to protect themselves, and your muscles the protein. If you achieve a healthy body I would still try to get in some good fats and a good ratio for proteins.
I myself like to choose the sources from Hemp, macadamia nuts for fats, spirulina for protein, coconuts, and so on.
About the rice, I myself do not like to eat so much rice, it makes me feel less energetic and not comfortable.
I think nutrition is not the only key, it is also about mindset. I myself don't stress out about too much carbs or too less. If my body feels less energetic I try to listen to it and see if I can figure out what it needs (not craving). But if I feel fine I don't worry about it. Be aware that everything what gets into your body takes also energy away from you, your digestive system takes up some energy and if you overeat or combine food badly you'll end up having less energy.
That is how I think about that, and what I've experienced and heard from other people. ;)
Greetings Julius
Everything makes you fat if you eat too much. Many articles make click bait titles nowadays. If it says "White rice is unhealthy" everyone clicks it because everyone is eating white rice and it's considered healthy. And it IS healthy :) Imagine how many in asia for instance who in the past has lived of almost only rice - and still some people do.
Thanks Chris!!
